Why this website? Why roemheld.org?

Founded in 2026 by patients who felt lost amid misdiagnoses, the Roemheld Syndrome International Foundation I.O. exists to unify the scattered knowledge surrounding this under‑recognised condition. After searching through websites, forums, podcasts, YouTube, AI tools and medical literature, we created a single portal to serve both patients and healthcare professionals.

Roemheld Syndrome — often called gastro‑cardiac syndrome — is not listed as a formal diagnosis in most medical reference works. The scientific literature contains limited case reports and no large‑scale studies. Nevertheless, the term is used in research to describe a possible connection between gastrointestinal disturbances, such as bloating, reflux, gas and hiatal hernia, and cardiac‑like symptoms such as palpitations, chest discomfort, breathlessness, anxiety and rhythm disturbances.

Disclaimer: Because chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness or fainting can signal serious heart disease, Roemheld syndrome must never be self‑diagnosed. Always consult a qualified physician to rule out cardiac causes before considering other explanations.

What our Foundation does:

  • We explain
  • We educate
  • We research and share medical studies
  • We share patient stories
  • We engage medical professionals
  • We stay up to date

🏛️ Remarkable:
More than 100 years ago, Ludwig Roemheld already described patients experiencing palpitations after meals, symptoms that worsened when lying down, and relief after belching. Read about the original 1912 paper.
